mirkarimi the suspended san francisco sheriff. the board of supervisors is voting on whether to remove him from office for good. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in san francisco with more on what is at stake. good morning. >>> reporter: good morning. this case has played out for months at city hall and this decision a big deal because it could set the precedent for misconduct cases in the future. sheriff ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor relating to a domestic violence dispute that left his wife with a bruised arm on new year's eve. nine months later we could find out if he stays or if he goes for official misconduct. his wife eliana lopez showed her neighbor a bruised arm which you can see in this video after her husband grabbed her during an argument. mirkarimi was sentenced to three years' probation, fined and ordered to undergo counseling. he was also placed on unpaid leave by mayor ed lee. since then, mirkarimi has been fighting for his job. his attorney says that the marital incident has nothing to do with his role has sheriff and he was also voted in. mayor lee want

into that undercover officer's car. san francisco police say this all started at 1:30 a.m. an undercover officer was shot at multiple times from a moving car. pd says the car had three suspects inside. the officer chased them to the 2500 block here of bryant street. that's when the three suspects jumped out of the car and ran away. the officers did catch up with one suspect and then police at the time set up a perimeter to try and find the other two. now, when ee got here about 10 minutes after we arrived, they were able to take down the crime tape. we watched officers search that suspect or the suspects' vehicle and tow it away. we know now this is an ongoing investigation and hope to have more information throughout the morning. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> new this morning, police in oakland are trying to find three home invasion robbery suspects overnight on coral road. police say the suspects were armed. so far authorities are not saying what was stolen. >>> the giants beat the tigers last night 8-3. what a night in game one. a little luck including this rbi double good

that their car crashed into and the car itself are still on scene. we have video from earlier. san francisco police say this all began at around 2:00 this morning just a few blocks from here at ellis and laguna. that's when officers say they were trying to pull over a car for a broken license plate light. and that is when the suspect's car tried to get away. not only that, they believe that the suspect or suspects fired shots on officers. as they tried to catch up to this car at eddy and franklin there was a crash with a cab. after that the suspects tried to run away. police arrested the passenger of the car but one man is still on the loose. they believe it is the driver of the car. it's still an active scene, officers gathering evidence from the taxi and the car. right now they have the passenger in custody. they want to gather more information as time progresses at this time. they set up a perimeter to look for the suspect but said it's such a wide area. they did take that down. these suspects are not from san francisco but other than that we only know that they are two males and we are s

in san francisco, 64 degrees, cool in santa rosa at 48 degrees. but clear now. high pressure still holding on one more day of that beautiful weather all the way to the coastline then eventually this system works across that ridge and that will bring more of a sea breeze toward the bay area as early as tonight. that means we'll cool the temperatures down into friday. but staying warm for today usually in the 70s. by the afternoon, well above the average. low 90s inland. maybe as high as 80 degrees in san francisco. that's 10 degrees above average. you know what, though, toward the weekend we could actually head below average and then maybe next week elizabeth we start to talk about more rain. >> crazy from swimsuits to rain jackets. didn't take long matter of days. >>> outside, enjoy this dry weather while we have it. so far the commute is not too bad. as you can see, it's starting to get a little busier than a half hour ago. this is 101 near mckee in san jose. headlights should be moving northbound. and everything looks free and clear towards santa clara. if you are commuting along

. more of that coming up. >> pretty big conference coming in san francisco. big road closure. tell you what it is coming up. >> good morning. it's monday october 1st . i'm michelle griego. >> i'm frank mallicoat. >> temperatures today could reach triple digits and may have been a factor in the death of an elderly woman. kate has more. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. police say they don't know what caused her death but heat may be a factor. with days like these you want to be careful if you are an elderly person or a child. these are the days you are most vulnerable. the bay area quality is reaching unhealthy levels. it is spare the air day. that means the air quality is poor. residents should reduce drivering. these are the days you want to take advantage of public transit, carpool or bike to work. people with respiratory problems need to be particularly careful. officials say they are vulnerable during these times. we have a couple tips for you to stay cool. one, obviously, drink fluid and don't wait until you are thirsty. stay away from alcoholic drinks or sugary drinks. t
is heading up to check it out. we are going to bring you those pictures shortly. >>> the san francisco board of supervisors siding with ross mirkarimi and gave the suspended sheriff his job back last night. cbs 5 reporter immaculate conception explains the shocking end to all the drama and i think a lot of folks surprised this morning i would imagine. >> reporter: a lot of stunned reaction still coming in this morning. last night, 7 of the 11 supervisors voted to remove ross mirkarimi from office, nine supervisors needed to do so for that to happen. he is going to come to work at city hall this morning. he his son and wife venezuelan actress appearing at the meeting last night. four supervisors voted for mirkarimi to keep his job despite his false imprisonment conviction for bruising his wife's arm days before taking office in january. it is probably going to be an awkward day at city hall after the mayor's month-long push to get him out. >> i look forward after something that has profoundly affected our relationship and i think our relationship as it intersects with the people of san franci

street once again closed because of oracle open world between 3rd and 4th in san francisco. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." let's go over and talk more about the forecast. all anyone has been talking about lately is this heat. >> those hot temperatures, very nice. what's nice is it comes and goes this time of year and it's headed out of town, temperatures cooling down a bit around the bay area today. outside right now a mild start to the day. a little hazy approaching the coastline but mostly clear. these temperatures still in the 50s and 60s. by the afternoon, it will stay hot inland. those temperatures up in the 90s, but the triple digits are gone. a lot of 70s inside the bay. you recall see some 80s in toward the santa clara rally and 60s and 70s out toward the coastline maybe some patchy fog moves in late in the day. this ridge of high pressure finally showing signs of weakening somewhat. the fog and low clouds starting to gather a little further to the south with a sea breeze, should begin to move in along the san mateo county coastline a little later on today an
